Research

Research at the SIDS reflects the complex nature of today's health care needs. The scientific basis of dentistry encompasses the diverse tissue systems of the oral cavity and its associated orofacial structures.

Many different approaches are employed, ranging from molecular biology to the exploration of new treatment modalities. Although research is organized into several major programs, strength of the college has been the consistent level of interaction and collaboration among individuals and across program boundaries. Many projects transcend areas of specialization and are strengthened by shared expertise.

SIDS has entered a 5-year strategic collaboration with Rao’s InfoCube which processes and manages the data of all of our research programs.

To identify the candidal species variation in the following study groups:

  • HIV negative asymptomatic individuals
  • HIV positive individuals with Highly Active Anti Retroviral Therapy
  • HIV positive individuals with out Highly active Antiretroviral Therapy

THE STUDY OF CANDIDAL SPECIES VARIATIONS IN ORAL CANDIDIASIS OF PATIENTS UNDERGOING RADIOTHERAPY FOR HEAD AND NECK TUMOURS AND THEIR ANTIFUNGAL SENSITIVITY.

Aim
Radiation given during treatment of head and neck tumours frequently causes alteration of oral environment, predisposing to colonization of oral mucosa by yeast species - most frequently candida. It is in this view, a study is carried out to find out different species and their antifungal susceptibility patterns in patients undergoing radiotherapy for head and neck malignancies.

Objective
To isolate and identify the species of candida prevalent in patients attending the radiotherapy department in GGH, GUNTUR undergoing radiotherapy for head and neck tumors and comparing them with the control groups.

THE SPECIFICITY AND SENSITIVITY OF COMPUTERIZED BRUSH BIOPSY AND SCALPEL BIOPSY IN DIAGNOSING ORAL PRE MALIGNANT LESIONS AND CONDITIONS-A COMPARATIVE STUDY.

Aim
The diagnosis of oral epithelial dysplasia has traditionally based on full thickness histopathological evaluation from lesional area. The recent advancement of cytological examination of brush biopsy is a non invasive method in determining the presence of cellular atypia and progression into oral malignancies, in many normal asymptomatic patches/ lesions. The early detection of many potentially malignant lesions can improve clinical outcome. Thus there is the need to asses the diagnostic accuracy of oral brush biopsy in a group of patients with clinical features of potentially malignancy.

Objective
Objective of the study is to test the sensitivity and specificity of the oral brush biopsy over the conventional scalpel biopsy in diagnosing oral pre malignant lesions and conditions.
