Anti Ragging Measures taken at SIDS
    Ragging in any form is strictly prohibited in side and out side the college . Ragging means doing an act which causes or is likely to cause insult or annoyance of fear or apprehension or threat or intimidation or outrage of modesty or injury to a student. Ragging is a disorderly conduct by words spoken or written or by an act which has the effect of teasing, treating or handling with rudeness any other student, indulging in rowdy or undisciplined activities which causes or is likely to cause annoyance, hardship or psychological harm or to raise fear or apprehension thereof in a fresher or a junior student or asking the students to do any act or perform something which such student will not do in the ordinary course and which has the effect of causing or generating a sense of shame or embarrassment so as to adversely affect the physique or psyche of a fresher or a junior student.

    The application for admission into the dental college has a printed undertaking to be filled up by the candidate and the parent / guardian of the candidate and the nature of the punishment if indulged in Ragging. This undertaking is to be signed by the senior students also .To prevent Ragging , Vigilance and Anti ragging committees have been instituted with their contact phone numbers. Grievances committee is also formed with the senior staff and students. Grievance boxes are kept in prominent places of the college. If necessary the ragging incidents are reported to the police and F.I.R would be filed. A close watch is kept on the visits of non – students / strangers to the college campus and college hostels.

Prohibition of Ragging in Educational Institutions (ACT 26 OF 1997) Salient Features:-
  • Ragging within or outside any Educational Institution is prohibited.
  • Ragging means doing an Act which causes or is likely to cause insult or annoyance or fear or apprehension or threat or intimidation or outrage of modesty or injury to a student.
NATURE OF RAGGING

PUNISHMENT
Teasing embarrassing and humiliating Imprisonment upto  6 months or fine  upto Rs.1000/- or both

Assaulting or using criminal force or criminal intimation

Imprisonment upto 1 year or fine upto Rs.2000/- or both

Wrongfully restraining or confining or causing hurt

Imprisonment upto 2 years or fine upto Rs.5000/- or both

Causing grievous hurt, kidnapping or rape or committing unnatural offence

Imprisonment upto 5 years and fine upto Rs.10,000/-

  

 

Note:-
  • A student convicted of any or the above offences, will be expelled from the college.
  • A student imprisoned for more than six months for any of the above offences will not be admitted in any other college.
  • A student against whom there is prima facie evidence of Ragging in any form will be suspended from the college immediately.

    2. Suspension from attending classes.
    3. Withholding / withdrawing scholarship/ fellowship and other benefits.
    4. Debarring from appearing for any test/examination or other evaluation process.
    5. Withholding results.
    6. Debarring from representing the institution in any national or international meet, tournament, youth festival, etc.
    7. Suspension, expulsion from the hostel.
    8. Rustication from the institution for periods varying from 1 to 2 academic year.
    9. Expulsion from the Institution and consequent debarring from admission to any other Institution.
    10. Fine upto Rs.50,000/-
    11. Rigorous imprisonment upto three year (by Court of Law) etc.

    Photographs of students indulging in Ragging if proved prima facie, shall be displayed in college notice board and published in local news papers. They would have a bleak future and they are not entitled to get a passport or visa to go abroad if a case is registered in the police station.
